The Arizona Semiconductor Cluster will synergize with Plan Sonora: Marcelo Ebrard

The Secretary of Foreign Relations, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, indicated that the Secretary of Commerce of the United States, Gina Raimond, announced that the state of Arizona will establish a cluster of semiconductors in which 50,000 million dollars will be invested, which together with the Plan Sonora they will make synergy to receive investments.

The Mexican foreign minister commented to the press on Saturday, December 10, that as a result of the talks between President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and President Joe Biden, “in the High-Level Economic Dialogue, the president of the United States told him that they are going to to make a great cluster for Semiconductors in Arizona, in which 50,000 million dollars will be invested and we want Mexico to participate”.

He recalled that this dialogue was suspended for more than four years because the United States government had said that “America First” because it wanted all its companies to be in that territory.

However, President Joe Biden proposed to the Mexican president to resume the High Level Economic Dialogue.

“We already had a meeting in Washington, the second in Mexico, and in that Dialogue, Secretary Raimond of Commerce invited Mexico because they are going to build a large cluster for semiconductors in Arizona, and said: ‘we are going to invest 50,000 million dollars and we want Mexico to participate’”, emphasized Marcelo Ebrard.

As a result of this dialogue, the President of Mexico proposed the Sonora Plan, which consists in not only Mexico generating solar and wind energy, but also using lithium for the generation of batteries (for electric vehicles) and adding the impulse of the automotive sector to manufacturing electric cars.

Recently, the president reported that the first stage of the Sonora Plan has already begun with a solar plant that will be replicated five times in Puerto Peñasco, to have solar energy in this entity. “Here in Bacanora and other parts we have lithium, which is the raw material to make batteries for electric cars,” he said.
