The United States launched air strikes in Syria on Thursday targeting facilities near the Iraqi border used by Iranian-backed militias.
US President Joe Biden said on Friday that Iran should view his decision to allow US air strikes in Syria as a warning that it could expect consequences for its support for militias that threaten US interests or personnel.
The Pentagon said the strikes were in response to a missile attack in Iraq earlier this month that killed a civilian contractor and wounded a US service member and other coalition forces.
