With coronavirus cases on the rise across the nation and many states and cities tightening restrictions, it’s more important than ever to stay home—and stay safe and healthy. Air purifiers not only make your space more comfortable as you spend more time at home, but some experts believe they can help prevent the spread of COVID-19 indoors.
While no air purifiers have been tested specifically with the virus, models with a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter are capable of capturing at least 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns, which is smaller than the size of most airborne pathogens. This could be especially helpful if you’re living with someone who has contracted the virus.
But which air purifiers are best for protecting your home against COVID-19? Based on our experts’ rigorous testing, these are the five best air purifiers you can buy right now. Though some of our best-tested options like the Dyson Pure Cool Cryptomic are not in stock, these are the best air purifiers currently available.

It performed incredibly well in our smell tests, virtually eliminating any trace of cinnamon and smoke. While it’s not the most technologically advanced air purifier we tested, it has a number of useful functions like sleep mode, a timer, and a number of status lights. That combined with reasonable price is why it’s our favorite model.
