The Spanish coast guard said it had found the bodies of four migrants and that three others were receiving treatment for severe sunburn after their boat arrived on the island of Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands, on Tuesday.
A total of 47 migrants were by boat.
The number of illegal immigrants arriving in the Canary Islands in 2020 more than eight-folded what it was in 2019 after the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and its impact on tourism and other sectors in northern Africa and in sub-Saharan Africa pushed more numbers to make the perilous journey.
The International Organization for Migration said hundreds of people were dead or missing last year while crossing the Spanish islands in the Atlantic in rickety and often overcrowded boats.
