Sao Paulo, Apr 4 (.).- BTG Pactual announced on Tuesday the launch of a stable cryptocurrency, which will have parity with the dollar and which, according to the Brazilian financial company, is the first digital currency in the world that has been issued by a bank.
The coin, called BTG Dol, will be available on the Mynt digital asset platform, owned by BTG Pactual, which already offers trading in and 21 other cryptocurrencies, including some stablecoins.
The bank said in a statement that it will be in charge of providing “the entire security framework for the asset, such as due diligence, anti-money laundering and compliance processes.”
The new cryptoactive will allow investors to “dollarize” part of their assets in an “easier” way, according to the bank’s director of Digital Assets, André Portilho, quoted in the note.
BTG Pactual is the largest investment bank in Latin America, with assets totaling 450.6 billion reais (about 89 billion dollars) at the end of 2022.
