The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) said that it had contacted Egypt to discuss the issue of the prisoner Hisham Abu Hawash, who is on hunger strike for the 141st consecutive day, in order to reject his administrative detention.
Anadolu Agency quoted the movement’s spokesman, Abdel Latif al-Qanou, as saying, “We have informed Egypt that the issue of the prisoner Abu Hawash is causing tension in the Palestinian street, and that there is a state of anger and rage due to Israel’s continued ignoring of the prisoner’s suffering.”
He explained that all options are open to the Palestinian people to prevent and stop the incursion and the singling out of the captive Abu Hawash, and warned that the resistance will not allow the occupation to persist in that, and that it will win for his cause.
He pointed out that Hamas is in a state of permanent consultation with the Palestinian factions to confront the Israeli terrorist behavior in dealing with it.
The movement called on all international and international human rights and humanitarian parties to pressure “the occupation to stop its arrogance in ignoring the suffering of the prisoner.”
Hamas called for the expansion of demonstrations in the West Bank and the city of Jerusalem, and the continuation of the clash with the occupation forces in the context of supporting the cause of the hunger striker.
A general strike in Hebron
In the developments of the prisoner Abu Hawash case, the comprehensive strike pervaded all aspects of life in the Hebron Governorate in the southern West Bank, and this came in response to a call made by the national and Islamic forces in the city.
The Palestinian resistance factions held the Israeli occupation authorities fully responsible for the prisoner’s life, and considered that harming Abu Hawash’s life constitutes an aggression against the Palestinian people.
On Monday, the head of the Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, discussed with the Secretary-General of the Islamic Jihad Ziad al-Nakhala, through a phone call, the developments of the case of the prisoner Abu Hawash.
A statement issued by Hamas said that this call comes as an extension of the meetings held by the political and military leaderships of the two movements in the Gaza Strip, and to follow up on their results.
Abu Hawash is in a very critical health condition, as he suffers from an almost complete coma as a result of a lack of salt, vitamins and proteins in his blood, according to the Prisoners Affairs Authority.
Israel arrested the prisoner Abu Hawash on October 27, 2020, and transferred him to administrative detention.
Administrative detention is a decision to imprison by an Israeli military order for a period of up to 6 months, subject to extension, on the grounds of a security threat, without trial or indictment.
