The CNDH will not request more resources to operate in 2023; for the first time in history

The National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) will not request an increase in its budget for fiscal year 2023, the institution assured this Monday.

Through a statement, the CNDH pointed out that it is also the the only autonomous body that does not raise its budget for 2023 and that adopts with commitment the Federal Republican Austerity Actbeyond its mere compliance.

“Since 2019, the CNDH has undergone a profound transformation. Thanks to this, today, with fewer resources from the people being spent, we have the best historical results of the CNDH: more actions of unconstitutionality are issued, more recommendations, and the number of completed files has increased notably,” the Commission stated in its document.

He explained that in 2020 the institution’s budget was 1.87 million pesos; in 2021, the allocated budget amount was 1.6 million, while for 2022 the budget amounts to 1.7 million.

In other words, compared to the budget at the end of the previous administration, in 2022 there is a reduction of 8.2%, in real terms, compared to the 2019 budget,” he said.

“And with these resources, we have a much more productive CNDH: in the month of August, that is, 2 and a half years after it began, we reached 457 recommendations issued, more than the number that were issued in all 5 years of the previous management (449),” he added.
