The color of the year 2022 is “Nectarine 317-02 ”an intense orange hue that symbolizes the rebirth to the universality of unconditional love. This color can help people feel healthier and happier, according to Gerardo Zaldívar, manager of Bonding and Color at PPG Comex in interview with The Economist.
He mentioned that Nectarine is a multifaceted color that lends itself to facades. “It can be seen in some spaces such as: haciendas in Yucatan, in a house in Campeche, on the facade of the museum Franz Mayer and in various spaces in the Casa Palacio. We are surprised by the adoption of color 2022, which is already in different indoor and outdoor spaces ”.
He explained that Nectarine is a color that is recommended for environments where warmth is sought, such as a living room, a dining room or a kitchen and 100% for facades.
“In fact, Nectarine, in addition to being an intense and energetic color, combines very well with blue, as it achieves a contrast that helps us generate a feeling of harmony. It also works very well with warm colors and people are amazed at the vibe and energy it injects into the spaces, ”said Gerardo Zaldívar.
– How do you select the color of the year?
To select the color of the year, creative leaders are summoned, who help to generate a meeting of color and trends. “We look for people from different disciplines: fashion, architecture, curators or gallery owners, graphic designers and we make a group with people who work day by day with color. They talk about macro trends and current affairs … With that we are deciding a series of textures, colors, finishes, which are what are going to help us face the challenges we have as humanity ”.
On this occasion they established as themes: Environment, education and national identity. “This year our guiding thread to generate the themes was the concept of universal love, which made us overcome and emerge victorious from these challenges that we live as humanity. We had an analogy and a reflection of the fire of a phoenix, which is beautiful, it dies, but it resurfaces within its ashes ”.
