Palestinian media sources confirmed, on Sunday, the death of the great Palestinian poet and novelist, Mourid Barghouti, at the age of 77.
Al-Barghouti was born in 1944 in the village of Deir Ghassana near Ramallah in the West Bank, and received his education at Ramallah Secondary School.
Then he traveled to Egypt in 1963, where he joined Cairo University and graduated in the Department of English Language and Literature in 1967, the year in which Israel occupied the West Bank and prevented Palestinians who happened to be outside the country from returning to it.
Barghouti was married to the late Egyptian novelist Radwa Ashour, and their son, the poet Tamim Al-Barghouti.
