Ecuadorian police announced, on Tuesday evening, that the death toll from widespread riots that broke out in 3 different prisons in the country has risen to 62.
The Director of the Detention Services, Edmundo Moncayo, said during a press conference that so far 62 people have been killed as a result of the riots that broke out in the prisons of Guayas, Asway and Cotopaxi, after the police had previously reported 50 dead.

Moncayo explained that the authorities assigned 800 members of the police force to contain the disturbances and control the conditions at the sites, in addition to several hundreds of officers from the tactical units.
And described the government of the country, located in South America, through the words of the Minister of State, Patricio Basmino, the riots that have continued since Monday as “a coordinated move by criminal organizations to incite violence in the country’s prisons.”
The President of Ecuador, Lenin Moreno, sought to control violence in prisons and declared a state of emergency there due to repeated confrontations between criminal gangs.
