Today, Sunday, the authorities of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) announced the discovery of a new case of Ebola fever on their soil.
The Ministry of Health in the Republic confirmed that symptoms of the deadly virus appeared on the first of February in a woman in the town of Bina, North Kivu Province, adding that the patient died two days later in Butembo Town Hospital.
The ministry indicated that the victim was married to a man who had previously contracted Ebola during the previous round of the outbreak.
The ministry stated that the local response team is working at the site of the accident, and the national response team will soon head to Butembo to deal with a possible outbreak of the deadly virus.
This announcement marks the beginning of the 12th round of the Ebola outbreak on the territory of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, since the infection was discovered near the Ebola River in 1976.
Last November, the DRC authorities announced the conclusion of the previous round of the outbreak, which took place hundreds of kilometers away from the place where a new infection was detected, and the outbreak there resulted in the injury of 130 people, of whom 55 died.
