The Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, has directed to withdraw all communications submitted by the Ministry of Interior against current and former MPs and citizens on the grounds that they gathered in violation of the measures to address Corona.
The Public Prosecution received 38 complaints from the Ministry of Interior against all the deputies who celebrated their victory in the parliamentary seats, and demanded that they be investigated for violating health requirements and not adhering to social distancing.
Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said, “The political leadership has directed to take the necessary measures to withdraw the notices recently submitted by the Ministry of Interior against the gatherings held by members of the National Assembly in the presence of a number of citizens.”
He added, “The political leadership stressed the importance of cooperation between the legislative and executive authorities and facing all challenges, and the need to adhere to the approach of respecting the provisions of the constitution, applying the law, and adhering to health requirements.”
The Speaker of the Kuwaiti Parliament, Marzouq Al-Ghanem, said that “I was informed of my transfer to the Public Prosecution against the background of some gatherings and celebrations that took place after the election results were announced,” adding: “I will be the first to comply and the last to disagree.”
