The Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, began a visit to the United States, during which he will meet with US President Joe Biden and a number of senior US officials, led by Defense Minister Lloyd Austin.
The Qatari-US summit will discuss a number of issues of common concern, including enhancing security and prosperity in the Gulf and the region, in addition to ensuring the stability of global energy supplies, supporting the Afghan people, and deepening trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.
The Qatar News Agency (QNA) said that the visit constitutes a new station on the road to building and strengthening strategic cooperation and continuous consultation between the two leaderships and the two friendly countries, to serve their common goals and interests, and contribute to achieving stability, regional security and global peace.
She indicated that it coincides with the two countries’ preparations to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between them in 1972.
The agency quoted Qatar’s ambassador to the United States, Sheikh Mishaal bin Hamad Al Thani, as saying that “Qatari-American relations have witnessed a qualitative leap in the past few years, and this was demonstrated by raising the level of trade exchange between the two countries and exchanging visits at the highest levels.”
