Dina Mufti, a spokesman for the Ethiopian Foreign Ministry, told RT today, Friday, that Egypt’s position on the Renaissance Dam negotiations was not good, stressing his country’s readiness to reach an agreement on filling the dam lake.
Mufti stressed that the Renaissance Dam will not deprive Egypt or Sudan of any water resources, and the purpose of the Renaissance Dam is to generate energy only.

The spokesman stated in an exclusive statement to RT that the distribution of the Nile water was not fair, and Egypt and Sudan get the largest share, even though Ethiopia is the source country.
Mufti explained that the Declaration of Principles on the Renaissance Dam stipulates that the three countries have recourse to mediation if they fail to reach an agreement.
The Ethiopian diplomat reiterated his assertion that his country will continue the Renaissance Dam project because it needs it to generate electricity.
On the other hand, the spokesman stressed that the Sudanese military presence in parts of Ethiopian territory is an occupation, noting that Sudan ignored bilateral agreements based on acceptance of the de facto situation, calling on Khartoum to withdraw from its lands.
Mufti stated that Addis Abab appreciates the mediation efforts and wants a peaceful solution to the border crisis, but it will not negotiate before the withdrawal of the Sudanese forces.
In the context, the Mufti stated that his country is witnessing an influx of refugees from Sudan and other African countries, calling on Khartoum to facilitate the return of its citizens.
Regarding the Tigrayan crisis, he stated that the crisis will not weaken them, stressing that it is an internal Ethiopian affair and what is happening there are operations to ensure security in the region.
