Brussels, 18 (.) .- The executive vice president of the European Commission in charge of the Economy, the Latvian Valdis Dombrovskis, encouraged this Thursday to “make more efforts to promote private investment” and not trust the entire recovery from the crisis caused by the COVID-19 to recovery and resilience plan funds.
“We want to go beyond public investment. Investors are seeing the benefits of betting on the green and digital transitions that we are promoting in Europe. Our competitive and dynamic markets can offer great rewards,” Dombrovskis said during a European business summit.
The community leader assured that the implementation of aid from European funds by member states “will open a wide range of business opportunities” and called on companies to “innovate to make economies greener, more digital and more competitive. “
In this sense, he encouraged investment in projects that have the objective of creating, for example, green transport, renovating buildings to improve their sustainability, promoting energy efficiency, digitizing public services or expanding the 5G network.
Dombrovskis recognized that “a European leadership” in the ecological and digital transition at a global level “could help to incentivize this type of investment” and, therefore, claimed that the countries of the Union are the ones that host the most green start-ups throughout the planet.
Beyond this, the Vice-President of the Commission also wanted to appeal to international investors, not just Europeans, and stated that “opening up to global trade and investment can help the recovery” while, in his opinion, ” reinforce economic transitions. “
“Our investment strategy and global trade complement each other, with the aim of reaching a position of strategic autonomy for the EU,” he said.
