The leaders of the European Union countries agreed to make an amendment to the color classification for epidemiological situations, as they decided to add the dark red color to identify areas where new strains of Corona virus have spread.
“We will need precise measures to keep our borders open and to ensure that we remain safe,” said European Commission President Ursula Vaud der Leyen, at a press conference held Thursday in Brussels after a virtual summit of leaders of the bloc countries: “We will need to take precise measures to keep our borders open and to ensure that we remain safe. We must improve the classification system on the map to identify areas of high risk.” .
“That is why we announce the addition of a new category, which is the dark red regions, that is, lands where new strains of the virus spread rapidly,” said von der Leyen.
She explained that all arrivals from these areas will have, during the transition within the European Union, to undergo special checks for the Corona virus before traveling and to undergo a quarantine after arrival, and added: “Given the difficult conditions, definitive instructions can be issued warning against all unnecessary movements.”
Von der Leyen confirmed that the European Union countries are extremely concerned about the spread of new strains of the virus, stressing the need for more tests and additional analyzes to study the mutations.
