Today, Tuesday, the European Commission expressed its regret over Iran’s resumption of 20 percent uranium enrichment in an underground nuclear facility, which violates the nuclear agreement concluded by Tehran with world powers in 2015, but expressed its belief that the agreement was worth preserving.
“We are extremely concerned about the actions taken by Iran. This action violates Iran’s nuclear obligations and will have serious repercussions,” a commission spokesman said in a periodic briefing.
“It is a pity, but it is very important as well … that we preserve the agreement,” he added.
Iran’s enrichment of 20 percent of uranium is the latest controversial step in the agreement, which Tehran began violating in 2019 in response to Washington’s withdrawal from it in 2018 and its reimposition of sanctions under which it was canceled.
