The first Center for Industrial Innovation in Future Mobility in Nuevo León is ready by 2025

Monterrey, NL. The Driven/CLAUT Innovation Center is venturing into technologies for the next generation of mobility solutionsTherefore, progress is expected in the creation of the Center for Industrial Innovation in Mobility of the Future, which would be pioneering and the only one of its kind in Mexico and would be ready by mid-2025.

“What is sought with this new project is to make the leap towards the manufacture of prototypes, tests, manufacture of short series, and validations up to the test track,” he commented to The Economist Ricardo Apaez, general director of the Driven Center.

He explained that it will be a natural evolution of the growth of this Center whose specialty has been the design and simulation for the Automotive industry. However, for three years they have been working in the world of electromobility, which is currently limited to the development of design and simulation technologies.

To carry out the project of the Center for Industrial Innovation in Mobility of the Future, a project concept is being developed, including the expansion of the physical space that they have within the Research and Technological Innovation Park (PIIT), which would consist of 5,000 square meters to expand the design and simulation laboratory and have consulting for technological surveillance, competitive intelligence, patent search and market studies.

“The idea is to have workshop areas that enable us to manufacture most of the prototypes that we have planned for this Center, as well as traditional mechanical testing laboratories: durability, fatigue, mechanical stress, some environmental exposure, thermal cameras, and so on. as well as a prototype assembly line”, the manager explained.

The project includes enabling the roads of the PIIT with certain technological infrastructure of a Smart City. Today the PIIT has 10 kilometers of paved roads, where 3,500 people work, “we see it with great potential to be a laboratory on a real scale and with real activity to develop smart city technologies,” he specified.

In addition, it has been proposed to look for land close to the PIIT “where we can have high braking tracks, durability and off-road, with ascending and descending ramps and uneven terrain, they are track land that is used for the road of complete vehicles or power trains. mounted on chassis,” he said.

In short, it is a very ambitious project that, he considered, would put the Center and the automotive industry of Nuevo León in a good position worldwide. Currently there is something similar in Germany, California, United States and Ontario, Canada.

“The relevance of this project, with the potential arrivals of Tesla or any other automotive assembly company, requires a strong technological push of one hundred percent. electromovilidadIt is the piece of the puzzle that we need”, he emphasized.

He cited that the entity has manufacturing, labor, equipment technology, supply of raw materials, the logistics chain and the value chain quite well armed, but many companies lack the capacity to develop design, manufacture of prototypes, validation of a subsystem.

“At this moment we are going through the whole package, we are not seeing it in segments, if at any point we get stuck and see that there are no resources, we will look for alternatives (…), the idea would be to build the building, equipment and fitting out of the runway tests, and the Center would be 100% operational with all its capacities, by mid-2025”, he estimated.
