French judicial sources reported that the public prosecutor has brought formal charges against the candidate for the French presidential elections in 2017, Francois Acelino, in the context of a sexual harassment case.
French television quoted the sources as saying that the list of charges against Aselino, head of the far-right People’s Republican Union, included sexual harassment, rape, emotional pressure and intimidation of the victim.
Judicial authorities in Paris placed Asilino under imprisonment as part of an investigation that was opened on May 15, 2020, after two likely victims filed two grievances, and they were employed by the party headed by the former presidential candidate, who strongly denies the accusations and describes them as slanders.
Thirty-eight employees from the party’s frameworks condemned the “exceptionally serious” facts, without addressing their nature, and demanded the resignation of the party leader, who held a conference in July 2020 when he was re-elected.
