The structural reinforcement of the foundation and complementary works in terminal 2 of the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) are in charge of the companies Alfa Proveedores y Contratistas, Jaguar Ingenieros Constructores and Cemex Concretos, to which the Government of Mexico City will pay 352.5 million pesos to carry them out in 304 days.
The amount is 41% less than that proposed in August by the President of Mexico Andrés Manuel López Obrador (600 million pesos), who ordered that the tasks begin this year in order to guarantee the physical integrity of users within the facilities. .
Due to the “high priority of attention” that the reinforcement of the terminal inaugurated in 2007 has, the Secretariat of Works and Services of Mexico City opted for the alternative of direct award to the aforementioned firms.
As an argument, in an opinion of the agency, dated November 18, it was written that: There would be a decrease in the time required to carry out the procedure compared to a public tender, which would result in carrying out the work with greater speed, avoiding the opportunity cost, immediately attending to the need to execute the works and eliminating possible problems with the population.
In its interest to directly assign the work to the companies, the Secretariat will have to guarantee that they have the technical, financial and human resources to carry out the work, in addition to the necessary experience.
priority project
The areas where urgent work has begun to avoid settlements of between 0.60 and 1.20 meters are: the covered parking lot, the patio-hotel building and the terminal building.
“On October 17, 2022, the analysis of the structural inspection of the building that houses the AICM terminal 2 was issued… same as was signed by Dr. en I. Renato Berrón Ruiz, general director of the Institute for the Construction Safety, which includes the need to carry out various actions so that the construction presents good structural behavior during the rest of its useful life…”, it was detailed.
Regarding the money available to the local government to pay the firms, it was stated that on November 3 a coordination agreement was signed on the matter of reallocation of resources between the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), the AICM, the local government, the Ministry of Works and the Institute for Construction Safety.
Some of the objectives to follow are: to give stability to the structure, which includes: foundation, structure, masonry, finishes, signaling and induced works.
