Maas had previously declared in an interview with the popular newspaper Bild am Sonntag that “basic rights” must be returned to those who received the vaccine because they would not pose a threat to some of them if they gathered in a restaurant or movie theater.
The head of the Patient Protection Fund, Eugen Brisch, accused the Foreign Minister of fabricating “a false discussion about granting privileges to the recipient of the vaccine,” noting that “no one knows today whether someone who received the vaccine could transmit the virus to others.”
While a source in the German Ministry of Health said that there can be no exceptions to the strict rules as long as ambiguity remains about the possibility that the person who received the vaccination could be a source of risk of transmission to others.
And the opposition Free Democratic Party criticized Maas’s statements, describing them as “very populist and ill-considered.”
As for social networking sites, opponents of the current restrictions used them to express their rejection of what they described as the acceptance by the government of Chancellor Angela Merkel to divide society into two camps: “privileged people” and “second class” citizens.
