According to the newspaper, the Australian academic and his son alleged that they were tortured while in detention in Qatar, after being placed in stressful conditions for long periods, in addition to being deprived of sleep.
The Qatari security forces arrested a 58-year-old student, who is the vice president of the Public Health Department at Qatar University and works with the Qatari government to confront the repercussions of the Corona virus, in addition to his son Ismail, 24, on July 27, where they detained them in an undisclosed location. .
The newspaper pointed out that Luqman and his son Ismail left Doha for Turkey after their release, but they are planning to return to Australia when they recover fully.
Mariam Talib, Luqman’s daughter, said that the Qatari authorities did not provide a justification for the detention of her father and brother, but the newspaper indicated that the arrest of the two men came before the United States named one of Luqman’s sons, Ahmed Talib, last October as the “financial facilitator” of “Al-Qaeda.”
The US State Department said that “Ahmed Talib has financial dealings in a number of countries, and his business in gemstones has enabled him to transfer funds internationally for the benefit of Al Qaeda.”
