The head of the Israeli Internal Security Agency (Shin Bet(Ronen Bar pursues the Islamic Resistance Movement)agitation) “everywhere” outside Israel, “and eliminating it even if it takes years,” recalling Israel’s reaction after the “Munich Operation” that targeted Israelis in Germany in 1972.
In a recording broadcast by the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation, it was not clear when Bar made the statement or to whom, he said, “The Cabinet set a goal for us, which is to eliminate Hamas. This is our Munich. We will do it everywhere, in Gaza, in the West Bank, in Lebanon, and in Turkey.” In Qatar, it may take a few years, but we are determined to implement it.”
The head of the Shin Bet added, “The security responsibility lies with us, and it is our duty to achieve and feel security. Unfortunately, on the seventh of last October, we did not succeed in that, but I believe that we are in continuous development, and we are not waiting. We are drawing lessons from these events and transferring them to the fronts.” Others, not just to the Gaza Strip.”
He continued in the recording, “The extent of the threats to Israel is unprecedented during the last year before those events, and in those events also what was hidden was far from sight, and there are many things moving from under the ground.”
Munich process
By mentioning Munich, Bar was recalling what Israel did after the killing of 11 members of the Israeli Olympic team in 1972 when a group from the Palestinian Black September organization launched an attack during the Olympic Games in Munich, Germany.
Israel responded to that operation by carrying out an assassination campaign targeting activists and members of the organization over several years and in several countries.
Israel has vowed to eliminate the Hamas movement since the attack of last October 7, which targeted settlements around the Gaza Strip, and since that date it has launched a devastating aggression against the Gaza Strip, leaving more than 15,000 martyrs and thousands wounded and missing.
