The United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA) announced that the Chairman of the Redeployment Coordination Committee, Lieutenant General Abhijit Goha, discussed, on Sunday, with representatives of the Houthi group, support for the implementation of the ceasefire.
According to a mission statement, Lieutenant General Goha said during his meeting with the head of the Houthi “Ansar Allah” group in the Coordination Committee, Ali Al-Mushki, that “the protection of civilians is of utmost importance and all steps taken to implement the Hodeidah agreement should be taken as a guiding concept.”
He added, “If we have better access to the military sites, we will be able to better support the implementation of the ceasefire, which in turn will reduce violence and affect civilians.”
The head of the UN mission stressed the necessity of granting the right of access to the sites where civilian losses or damage to civilian infrastructure occurred.
Goha touched on “the issue of the presence of the United Nations Mission to support the Hodeidah Agreement on the other side of Hodeidah where the Yemeni government is located,” referring to the Yemeni government’s requirement to move the mission’s headquarters from “Ansar Allah” control areas to a neutral area in Hodeidah, to resume its participation in the coordination committee Spread.
For his part, the head of the “Ansar Allah” team in the Coordination Committee suggested “establishing a demilitarized zone to support this request.”
In the round of peace negotiations in Sweden in late December 2018, the legitimate Yemeni government and the Houthis reached an agreement on Hodeidah, which includes the joint redeployment of forces from the city of Hodeidah and its ports and a ceasefire.
