A joint statement issued by a number of NGOs, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Organization for Migration urged the authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina to immediately find an alternative solution to the refugee crisis.
This came against the backdrop of the closure of a migrant camp in the northwest of the country and the ensuing fire on December 23, as up to 500 residents of the former camp were stranded, in addition to about 1,500 other refugees.
According to United Nations organizations, over the past few days, temperatures have dropped below the freezing point and Bosnia and Herzegovina has witnessed heavy snowfall, and for its part, the European Commission’s General Directorate continues to provide health assistance and protection to refugees and migrants. Given the dire situation, the provision of life-saving assistance in awareness-raising for those sleeping in harsh conditions has been strengthened.
