The director of operations of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Dominic Stillhart, said that the agency urged countries that impose such measures to consider “humanitarian hardship” to mitigate any negative impact on the population and on neutral aid.
On Sunday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced the move, which will include sanctions against the movement and three of its leaders, and will take effect on January 19, the last full day of President Donald Trump’s administration in office.
