The Iraqi Defense Ministry: We were surprised by the US statement targeting some locations inside Syria

On Friday, the Iraqi Ministry of Defense confirmed that it was surprised by the US statement about the targeting of a number of sites inside Syrian territory.

The ministry said in a statement that it was “surprised by the statements made by the US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin regarding an exchange of intelligence information with Iraq that had previously targeted some sites inside Syrian territory.”

The statement added: “While we deny that this happened, we confirm that our cooperation with the international coalition forces is limited to the specific goal of forming this alliance, which is to fight ISIS and its threat to Iraq, in a way that preserves the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq.”

Earlier today, Friday, after the US military raids on Syria, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said, “The American forces carried out the strike based on intelligence information provided by the Iraqi side,” he said.
