The Jordanian army announced in a statement on Saturday that its forces “killed 5 drug smugglers and arrested 15 others” after clashes with large armed groups of smugglers on the northern border with Syria, according to what was reported by the Jordanian News Agency (Petra).
The agency quoted an official military source at the General Command of the Armed Forces as saying that during the operation, “627,000 Captagon pills, 3,439 hashish palms, and a Kalashnikov-type firearm were seized” during the clashes that took place on the northern border of the Kingdom.
The Jordanian military source also indicated to Petra Agency that the clashes did not result in any casualties among the armed forces.
Earlier today, the Jordanian army announced that armed border clashes took place with smugglers on the border with Syria, and that army soldiers were expelling armed groups into Syria.
The army also said that the past few days have witnessed an increase in infiltration and smuggling operations aimed at crossing the border.
On December 31, the Jordanian army said that it was facing what it called a “frenzied campaign” of drug traffickers and weapons smugglers.
