Jordanian King Abdullah II stressed the need to strengthen the oversight role of the House of Representatives and to contribute to identifying aspects of neglect and negligence in some institutions.
During his meeting in the Husseinieh Palace with Parliament Speaker Abdel Moneim Al-Awdat and heads of a number of parliament committees, King Abdullah referred to the importance of the work of the specialized committees in developing the parliament’s performance and its oversight role.
With regard to the process of political development in the country, he stressed “the necessity of increasing cooperation between Parliament and the government, and proceeding to review the necessary legislation, most notably the election laws, parties and local administration.”
For his part, Al-Awdat said, “The council works through its oversight role in pointing to defects wherever they are in the public administration, so that the minister feels that he is accountable in his management of his ministry,” stressing the council’s commitment to continuous cooperation with the government.
The attendance appreciated King Abdullah’s keenness to communicate with the House of Representatives, stressing the progress in developing the work of the committees in the parliament, and their commitment to reviewing the laws governing political life, in addition to strengthening the oversight role of the Council and submitting recommendations and proposals to the government and cooperating with it.
