More than two decades of growth in air travel in the world have been wiped out in the last 10 months of the spread of the Coronavirus, a new report issued by Cirium, an analysis firm of air travel data, revealed.
According to the company, the number of air passengers decreased by 67% compared to 2019, and returned to the levels of 1999.
She pointed out that what is surprising is that the initial number of flights also fell sharply last year.
She added that during the period from January 1 to December 20, 2020, 16.8 million scheduled passenger flights were carried out globally, representing a decrease of 49% from 33.2 million flights compared to the same period in 2019.
Meanwhile, domestic flights were reduced by 40% in 2020 and more than 13 million domestic flights were operated this year in the United States, compared to 21.5 million in the same period in 2019.
In 2020, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport was the busiest airport in North America and the world, with more than 245,000 flights and Cirium data analysis records that Southwest Airlines operates the most flights in both North America and the world with 854,800 flights.
