(Trends Wide) — Former President Donald Trump joined his wife Melania in the NFT business on Thursday, announcing the launch of his “digital trading cards” showcasing his “life and career.”
In a post on Truth Social, Trump, who a day earlier mocked the launch as a “big announcement,” called his debut NFT “a lot like a baseball card,” noting that it cost $99 each.
Trump’s entry into the world of digital collectibles, or non-fungible tokens, follows a series of NFT releases by his wife. The former first lady previously released a digital version of a watercolor painting of her eyes, and a digital artwork depicting a memorable outfit she wore while hosting French President Emmanuel Macron when her husband was at the position.
At least one of the digital collectibles released by Trump on Thursday portrays him as a cartoon superhero, sporting a giant “T” across his chest and a gold belt that reads “Trump Champion.”
A website also launched a “giveaway” where buyers of its digital stickers would have a chance to win thousands of “amazing prizes and meet the one and only #45.”
Some of the awards listed on the website include a “memorable” dinner with Trump in Miami; a meet and greet with the former president at his Mar-a-Lago resort; an hour-long golf session with Trump and two close friends; or a group Zoom session with him.
“Christmas is coming up and this is a great Christmas gift,” Trump says in a video promoting the digital collection.
The website where consumers can buy the digital collectibles strongly denies that the funds are earmarked for Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.
“These digital collectible cards are not political and have nothing to do with any political campaign,” the FAQ section states.
