The Lebanese army announced the arrest of 5 people, including a Syrian, who were suspected of participating in acts of sabotage, rioting and setting fire to the Tripoli Municipality building, in northern Lebanon, during the protests in the city.

In a statement, the army command stressed that the military units spare no effort in maintaining security and stability in the city of Tripoli as well as the rest of the Lebanese regions.
The Army Command affirmed its respect for the right to peaceful demonstration and expression of opinion, warning those in breach of security that they would be pursued, arrested and referred to the competent judiciary.
The city of Tripoli witnessed a week of anti-government protests, interspersed with riots and attacks on public and private property, and the burning of the Tripoli municipality building, which is an ancient building in the city.
