The March of the Carried

When we believed that there could be no more polarization orchestrated from the National Palace, my countryman President Andrés Manuel López Obrador called for a mobilization this Sunday to “see if the people are happy with the transformation of the country”, which shows us once again that MORENA’s specialty is not governing but politicking.

This call is a presidential revenge for the great citizen response two weeks ago to defend our democracy. But unlike that one, in the so-called #March of the hauled, we had the opportunity to see in an obscene way the waste of public resources: servants with federal government vests, propaganda, hundreds of trucks, cakes and soft drinks, awnings installed from a day before, and the army itself enlivening the event of the presidential whim.

What a serious situation our country is experiencing: minimizing the social discontent that implies modifying the electoral laws to give more power to the ruling party, and also doing it through a march paid for with the treasury: this is a provocation, just as it happens in dictatorships!

MORENA’s triumphs have been solely to serve the interests of those who lead that movement. The recovery of citizen confidence in their representatives, the government and its institutions comes precisely from inclusion. Mexico does need mobilizations, but emanating from the citizens, not orchestrated from power. This is the most serious aberration seen in Mexico in decades.

As an economist, a woman, a mother, and a legislator, I wonder, are there really reasons to march for this administration? where is the fourth transformation?

In a refinery that does not refine and aggravated the ecological problems of the area, an unsaleable presidential plane that costs us to stop, an excessive price increase due to inflation, our abandoned field, a terrible management of the COVID-19 pandemic where we had first place in deaths of medical personnel, an excessive increase in corruption and cronyism at all levels of government, a failed security strategy, attacks and disappearance of autonomous organizations, an energy policy that endangers relations with the United States, our largest trading partner, collapse of the health system, the worst figures for the harassment and murder of journalists and more violence against women and femicides.

First the poor, is a lying slogan. Today there are almost 4 million more poor people, and the main reasons shown by the data were the drop in social security due to the disappearance of popular insurance, the lack of sufficient resources to purchase the basic food basket, and the 32% decrease in government transfers. the most vulnerable decile, that is, the poorest in Mexico.

As you can see, the list is endless.

Citizens must be judges of governments and the true essence of a mobilization must always be the change of course in favor of freedoms and democracy. Let’s be honest, Mexico is experiencing a governance crisis, those who said it was easy to govern today, reality has surpassed them.

To govern is to exercise the direction, administration and control of a State, it comes from the Latin gubernare, which in principle means “to pilot a ship”. But this ship is not only under no one’s command, it is sinking.
