The advisor to the Minister of Health issued a statement declaring that the aim of the visit was to “learn about the health situation in the state, listen to the problems raised, and propose appropriate solutions to them.” The minister chaired a meeting called by the governor of Nouadhibou, Yahya Ould Sheikh Mohamed Fall, and it was attended by representatives of Residents of the city, which is the economic capital of the country.
The communiqué indicated that the aim of the meeting was “to hear the residents ‘views on the level of health services in the city, and to see residents’ proposals to improve these services.”
While Sahara Media pointed out that “the meeting was dominated by the crisis of Cuban doctors who work in the specialty hospital built by the SNIM charitable organization several years ago. The controversy arose recently after news spread that the authorities are seeking to deport them, as the work contract that binds Cuban doctors in the Mauritanian state have expired, and some health care contracts linking them to some sports clubs and institutions have been terminated.
It is worth noting that the departure of the Cuban doctors raises a lot of controversy, while the Mauritanian street is divided over the issue.
