Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador announced, on Sunday, that tests confirmed his infection with the Coronavirus, and added that he was suffering from mild symptoms and began to receive treatment.
“As always, I am optimistic,” the 67-year-old president of Mexico said on Twitter.
Obrador indicated that the Minister of the Interior will be responsible during his absence from holding the morning press conference, which is organized every day.
Speaking at a press conference shortly after the presidential announcement, a health official said that the president is “in stable condition” and that the symptoms are so far mild, adding that “a team of specialists takes care of the president’s health.”
Mexico is facing a second epidemic wave and it is ranked fourth in the list of countries most affected by the outbreak of the Corona virus, as it has so far recorded about 150 thousand deaths and about 1.8 million infections.
