There is no doubt that people stand amazed and proud of these military industries carried out by the Palestinian resistance. Although it has been living under siege for more than 17 years. Despite the lack of capabilities and the difficult security conditions, the resistance was creative and produced local weapons that proved their ability to inflict heavy losses on the Israeli occupation by destroying its military vehicles, confronting its weapons, which are the result of advanced technological military production lines.
In fact, behind the idea of the local military industry is a mentality that possesses a very strong will, and at the same time realizes the importance of independence, and possessing the ability to manufacture, develop, use, and surprise the enemy through it. This mentality is the first building block in building the military industries project, and there is no doubt that it has also gone through the process of industrialization. Others, with quality production lines.
The concept of power is considered a fundamental concept in relationships and conflicts, and with the division of power into hard power and soft power, and more recently into smart power that combines the two powers: hard and soft, we find here that the element of will is the common factor between all types of power.
As the resistance reported, through its statements, most of the industries carried out by the resistance – including missiles, anti-armour, launchers, cannons, bombs of various types, sniper rifles, and even bullets – are of local manufacture. However, the resistance acknowledges that these industries would not have been of any benefit. – In front of the enormous American arsenal that the resistance faces at the hands of Zionist mercenaries in the field – had it not been for another more important industry, which the spokesman for the Al-Qassam Brigades, “Abu Ubaida,” called the industry of the Palestinian fighter, whose will and insistence on confronting the killers of his grandfathers and fathers, the desecrators of his land, and the occupiers of his land, no force on earth can stand against him. His homeland.
At the same time, the building of the military field fighter – who has the willingness and faith to remain in his defensive position for months waiting for the enemy – is accompanied by the building of a Palestinian person who has the ability to withstand, who has awareness of the importance of resistance and the sanctity of the battle for the holy sites and the land, and awareness of the malicious plans and psychological warfare directed at his destruction. Morally, he is ready to sacrifice what is dearest to him for the sake of higher goals.
Solid will and strength
The talk here is about the role of the will in the process of steadfastness, and the talk here is not only about an emotional and moral matter, but rather the will is one of the components of comprehensive power. For example, Carl von Clausewitz – a German military scientist whose writings on philosophy, tactics and strategy left a profound impact on The military field in Western countries, and his ideas are still taught in many military academies – he saw that will is one of the basic components of military power. Rather, Clausewitz proposed an equation to calculate the military power of a country as the product of will and capabilities.
He believed that will is the desire to fight and win, while capabilities are the material and human resources available to the state. At this point we can say without a doubt; The will of liberation and victory among the resistance and the Palestinian people is much greater than that of the occupation army.
As for Joseph Frankfurt, an American scientist, he saw that power is the product of will, resources, and legitimacy. He defined legitimacy as the recognition of state authority by the people. Here also the will finds its prominent place alongside resources and legitimacy, and we can say in the Palestinian case as well; The will factor here acts as a lever for the total strength, so that it covers part of the deficit when comparing physical capabilities.
The soft power of resistance
The concept of power is considered a fundamental concept in relationships and conflicts, and with the division of power into hard power and soft power, and more recently into smart power that combines the two powers: hard and soft, we find here that the element of will is the common factor between all types of power.
That is why when we look at the equation of the American political scientist Kenneth Wells to calculate the soft power of the state, he completely ignores the material capabilities, and sees it as the product of will and gravity. He considers will to be the desire to achieve political goals, and attractiveness to be the ability to attract others to these goals.
In the context of talking about the soft power here of the Palestinian resistance, we say very clearly: It has transcended Palestinian geography to reach the entire global geography, and perhaps no liberation movement during the past four decades has received such solidarity and desire for support. It has also achieved a state of attractiveness through its military, media, and moral performance, steadfastness, and tactics.
Also, the most prominent figure of the Palestinian resistance currently and the most attractive is the figure of the military spokesman, “Abu Ubaida,” who continues to charge the batteries of the people’s will in his speech, and refers to the people’s steadfastness and legendary sacrifices as a renewable energy source for the performance of the resistance in the field. Abu Ubaida has become a global symbol that the rising generation looks up to all over the world, and they are eager for every new speech from him, which is what is called in soft power literature winning minds and hearts.
In this context, we recall the theory of scientist Joseph Nye, who pointed out the ability of soft power to achieve goals through attraction and influence. Perhaps the values, morals and culture that people saw in the resistance’s dealings with prisoners – for example – contributed to the resistance winning minds and hearts on a global level.
The Palestinian human being and comprehensive power
But in any case, the general model for calculating comprehensive power is the product of will, capabilities, and other factors, such as: culture, leadership, strategy, legitimacy, and attractiveness. Accordingly, the will here has a value of one or zero, and therefore it is not surprising that a small group would triumph over a group that has a large number and equipment. And the potential.
The industry of the Palestinian fighter – whether on the military or civilian level – is an industry to be proud of. The Palestinian journalist who fights in his field and covers it – despite all these horrors – is a unique industry and we can talk – for example – about Al Jazeera correspondent Wael Al-Dahdouh. And his insistence on continuing despite everything. We can talk about the Palestinian doctor Munir Al-Bursh and his fellow workers in the health and relief sector, and we can talk about the Palestinian mother and the Palestinian child, as this is the most important industry.
In the face of this giving, steadfastness, greatness, and belief in the justice of the cause, the technology possessed by the occupation will do nothing to change the path of this people towards liberation, and if rocket and missile factories are attacked, the Palestinian resistance production factories cannot be attacked.
