It is expected that Egyptian drama during Ramadan will present a mixture of diversity, suspense, action, and comedy, in addition to a dose of social series. The list of Ramadan 2024 series includes a large number of works whose makers are about to finish filming, to be ready for showing in the holy month.
Between novel and history
Artist Yahya Al-Fakharani returns to the Ramadan screen after a 3-year absence with the series “Thresholds of Joy,” adapted from a novel by Ibrahim Abdel Majeed with the same name, after he announced that he would stop participating in the Ramadan drama following the presentation of the series “Zaki Naguib Zarkash.”
The events of “Thresholds of Joy” revolve around a human social context, around a grandfather’s relationship with his grandchildren. After he reaches an old age, he begins searching for the joy that the series’ hero finds in his relationship with his grandchildren on a journey through time.
The series stars Syrian actress Joumana Murad, Sayed Rajab, Samaa Ibrahim, and Jihan Al-Shamasherji.
As for the Egyptian actor Khaled El Nabawy, he will present in Ramadan 2024 the series “Mem Empire,” inspired by the novel by writer Ihsan Abdel Quddus of the same name, which was previously presented in a movie in 1972 and starred by the artist Faten Hamama.
The author, Mohamed Suleiman Abdel Malek, did the new treatment of the novel, while Mohamed Salama took over the directing. Hala Shiha, Nashwa Mustafa, and Mahmoud Hafez are participating in the “Empire of Meem” starring alongside Khaled Al-Nabawi.
Regarding the text of “One Thousand and One Nights,” the artist Yasser Jalal will participate in the Ramadan 2024 series season, which takes place within a framework of imagination, fantasy, and the story of the popular hero. The series is written by Anwar Abdel Mugheeth, directed by Islam Khairy, and starring Yasmine Rais, Sheri Adel, and Wafaa Amer.
In a historical context and a previous era, the drama season witnesses the presentation of the series “The Assassins,” written by Abdel Rahim Kamal and directed by Peter Mimi, with the starring role played by Karim Abdel Aziz, Fathi Abdel Wahab, Sherif Salama, and the Syrian actress Suzan Najm al-Din.
Karim Abdel Aziz embodies the character of a leader The Assassins Al-Hassan Al-Sabah, and the events of the work revolve in the 11th century about the band that was famous for carrying out bloody assassinations of prominent figures at that stage.
The events of “The Assassins” were filmed in Kazakhstan and a number of different countries, in addition to Egypt.
Action, excitement and mystery
A large number of the heroes of the Ramadan 2024 series will participate in works that belong to the category of action, excitement, and mystery, including the series “Al-Atawla,” whose events revolve around the conflict between two brothers and the desire for revenge due to greed and jealousy, which causes the destruction of both of them and the imprisonment of one of them.
“Al-Ataula” was filmed in the city of Alexandria, and co-stars Ahmed El-Sakka and Tariq Lotfy, along with Zeina and Mai Kassab. It was written by Hisham Helal and directed by Ahmed Khaled Moussa.
As for the actor Amir Karara, he in turn presents the series “Beit Al-Rifai”, in which he embodies the character of a doctor. Its events take place in the Nazlet El-Semman area, which is close to the pyramids of Giza and is exposed to the antiquities trade. It is written by Peter Mimi, directed by Ahmed Nader Galal, and Ahmed Rizk, Sayed Ragab and Muhammad Lotfy.
For his part, actor Mustafa Shaaban is participating in the Ramadan marathon in the series “The Teacher,” and its events take place in a popular context inside the fish market. It is written by Muhammad Al-Shawaf, directed by Markus Adel, and co-starring Hajar Ahmed, Intisar, and Ahmed Badir.
Among the exciting and suspenseful works, Hassan Al-Raddad also participates in the series “Warrior” with director Sherine Adel, which is written by Muhammad Sayed Bashir.
As for Ahmed Al-Awadi, he plays the first absolute starring role in the drama in the series “Haqq Arab” with director Ismail Farouk.
Reham Hajjaj is collaborating with the duo, director Sameh Abdel Aziz and author Ayman Salama, through the series “Coincidence,” after she presented the series “Jamila” last Ramadan. The new series revolves around suspense and mystery.
Life and social issues
A number of Egyptian series stars will compete in Ramadan 2024 in the framework of social drama as well, led by the series “Silat Rahm” written by Mohamed Hisham Obayya and directed by Tamer Nadi. The series stars the Jordanian actor Iyad Nassar and Asma Abu Al-Yazid, and its events revolve in a light social context around… Marital problems, where the hero discovers that he is not satisfied with his married life and resorts to a psychiatrist.
From marital disputes to popular heritage in Upper Egypt, Ghada Abdel Razek returns to participate in the Ramadan series through “Catching Scorpions,” written by Baher Dowidar and directed by Ahmed Hassan, with Riyad Al-Khouly, Simon, and Mayar Al-Ghaiti participating in the tournament.
As for the series “Qalaa Al-Bahr,” it deals with women’s rights in Upper Egypt. It is directed by Hosni Saleh, and stars Mohamed Riad, Riad Al-Khouly, and Rania Farid Shawqi.
The makers of “The Monsters Run” are re-presenting the events of the film released in 1987 with the same name, and the series directed by Abdel Aziz Hashad and starring Nidal Al-Shafi’i, Salah Abdullah, and Mahmoud Hegazy.
A dose of comedy
Comedy has a large share of the Ramadan 2024 drama, as Karim Mahmoud Abdel Aziz and Chico present the series “Khaled Nour and his son Nour Khaled” alongside Aya Samaha and Donia Maher. The series is directed by Mohamed Amin and written by Karim Sami, and discusses disputes between couples in a comedic framework.
The artist Ahmed Mekky continues to present a new part of “Al-Kabir Awi”, with the eighth part joining the Ramadan 2024 series, and its events revolve, as usual, around the mayor of the village of Mazarita, who is exposed to comedic situations, and through the events, his makers are exposed to issues of concern to society.
The series stars Bayoumi Fouad and Hisham Ismail, and actress Amina Khalil appears as a guest star in the work.
Ghada Adel joins a gang that commits some crimes in order to protect her family during the events of the comedy series “Lunch Box,” which will be shown as part of the Ramadan series. Gamila Awad, Ahmed Wafik, Shaheen, and Fadwa Abed participate in the action championship.
The series is written by Amr Medhat and directed by Mohamed Hisham Al-Rashidi, and the events revolve around the lives of 3 housewives who try to find solutions to the problems they suffer from.
In cooperation with director Khaled Marei, the artist Akram Hosni competes in the series “Baba Jah”, co-starring Nisreen Amin and Samaa Ibrahim. The series is written by Wael Hamdy, and its events revolve around a hotel manager during the Corona pandemic.
Also among the comedy series is “Apartment Works,” written and directed by Khaled Diab, and starring Hisham Majed and Asmaa Galal.
A number of makers were content to participate in the Ramadan marathon with short works extending to only 15 episodes, including the series “Strawberry,” in which Nelly Karim returns to comedy after her experience in the series “100 Wesh.”
Karim collaborates with director Marwan Abdel Moneim and author Mohamed Suleiman Abdel Malek, and co-stars with Mustafa Khater, Ahmed Fahim, and Shaima Saif.
In the series, Nelly Karim embodies the character of the daughter of a real estate guard named Farawla, a cup reader who becomes an expert in energy science.
