(Trends Wide Spanish) — 365 days have passed since the tragedy in Miami. On Thursday, June 24, 2021, a 12-story residential building with more than 130 apartments partially collapsed in the community of Surfside, Miami-Dade County, South Florida.
The building that collapsed was Champlain Towers South, located at 8777 Collins Avenue in Surfside. The disaster left dozens of people under the rubble.
The search and rescue efforts lasted just over a month, until July 26, when the aid teams found the body of the last victim of the tragedy. In total, the collapse left 98 people dead (97 directly in the collapse and one more in the hospital), who were between 1 and 92 years old.
The wound of the tragedy in Surfside is still open. As recently as May of this year, a $997 million tentative settlement was reached with the families of the victims and survivors (final approval is yet to come), which will help a little to heal.
A year after what happened in Surfside, these are some of the most shocking images.
