The North Korean Workers’ Party elects Kim as its general secretary

North Korean official media reported that the country’s ruling Workers’ Party has chosen state leader Kim Jong Un as its secretary-general.

The Korean Central News Agency confirmed at dawn today, Monday, that this decision came during the conference that the ruling party is currently holding.

Kim held the position of the party’s first secretary until now, while the position of general secretary belonged to his father, the late leader Kim Jong-il.
