The Environmental Quality Authority in the Gaza Strip confirmed that small parts of foreign materials had arrived on the shores of the strip due to the oil spill in the Mediterranean.
The authority pointed out that its staff began, from the first moment of the news, to conduct a continuous survey of the sea shore, with the participation of Gaza municipality staff and representatives of the UNDP, and last Saturday, small parts of foreign materials were found.
In a statement, she indicated that a sample of these materials was analyzed in the laboratory of the Water Authority and Environmental Quality, which showed the results of the tests as petroleum.
The Israeli media had reported an oil spill of tens of tons that occurred off the coast of the shores of the Mediterranean, and its effects were detected on the sea shore, and that the pollution affected about 170 km of the coastal strip, starting from the city of Haifa in the north, reaching the city of Ashkelon in the south, and said that many aquatic life They died due to dangerous pollution, and others appeared covered in the thick black liquid, which could cause an environmental disaster that could extend for long periods.
The Lebanese media also indicated that the oil spills have swept across the coast of southern Lebanon, reaching the Tire Coast Marine Reserve.
