The New Orleans Pelicans have closed the extension of Jonas Valanciunas’ contract for two seasons and a total amount of 30 million dollars, according to the media. ESPN. The center He will collect 14 million during this course, so this new agreement will extend his link with the franchise until the end of the 2023-24 season.
The Lithuanian international completed his last two seasons as a professional in Memphis, where he averaged 16.4 points and 11.7 rebounds in a total of 132 games. At the end of last July he was transferred to New Orleans in exchange for Steven Adams and Eric Bledsoe as thick of the operation.
This transfer limited the range of action of the Pelicans regarding the situation of Valanciunas: they could not offer him a raise of more than 5% of his current salary or close a renewal of more than two years, as the journalist Bobby Marks has shared. The player had the possibility of signing later but has opted to ensure his future as soon as possible.
The Pelicans hope to succeed with this operation and receive a greater return than that shown by Steven Adams last season. Currently, all the players in the squad are subject to contract until, at least, the 2022-23 academic year, except for Tomas Satoransky.
