Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said the United States did not use the information provided by Iraq when identifying targets for its air strikes against pro-Iranian factions in eastern Syria on Thursday.
“The Iraqi government was investigating the identity of those who launched missiles on its territory in recent days and weeks,” Kirby wrote on Twitter on Friday evening. “But we did not use Iraqi information to determine targets for our attacks that night.”

This came after the Iraqi Ministry of Defense announced that Iraq had not provided intelligence information to the international coalition prior to the US air strikes on Syria, and expressed its astonishment at the statements of US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin regarding an exchange of intelligence information with Iraq that had previously targeted sites inside Syria.
Austin had said that “Washington encouraged the Iraqis to investigate and provide them with intelligence information, and that this was very helpful in determining the target.”
