The head of the relevant department, Rolando Enrique Domingo, said: “The known and potential benefits of the Sputnik vaccine outweigh the known and potential risks of this vaccine.”
The Russian vaccine, developed by the Russian “Gamalia” Center for Microbiology, is the fourth drug approved for emergency use in the Philippines.
In the past, vaccines were approved in the Philippines by co-production with the American company Pfizer, the German company, Biontec, the British-Swedish consortium of Strazeneca, and the Chinese company Sinovac.
On March 1, the country’s medical workers began vaccination with the Chinese Coronavac vaccine, after Manila received 600,000 doses from Beijing before that.
The first case of corona was discovered in the Philippines on January 30, 2020. So far, the number of infected people in the country is 640,980, and more than 561,000 patients have recovered, and 12,887 people have died.
