The red lights come on at Goodyear, it goes to new votes and the visit of US labor attachés ends

Voting in the company begins again next Sunday Goodyear at its plant in San Luis Potosí, for which reason alerts were turned on about the conditions in which this contract legitimization process will take place, which was suspended due to the theft of a ballot box allegedly committed by representatives of the titular union “Miguel Trujillo” .

In addition, last Wednesday and Thursday the labor attachés of the United States Department (DOL) to take the testimonies of the workers, the company and the union “Miguel Trujillo” (who refused to answer the call) that allows responding to the request for complaint presented by workers of the Goodyear Mexico Independent Workers Union (SITGM) for the violation of freedom of association under the Rapid Response mechanism of the T-MEC.

It should be noted that workers denounced that the union that is currently the owner was offering a bonus of 25,000 pesos for them to join the cetemista union “Miguel Trujillo”, because, in case they lose the legitimation process next Sunday -by means of a free, secret and direct vote-, “they will want to fight the ownership of the contract through the Certificate of Representation that requires having the 30% of workers’ signatures to go to a new voting process.

This process, which is organized by the Federal Center for Conciliation and Labor Registration, will be attended by observers not only from the Mexican government and union organizations, but also at the request of the International Labor Organization (ILO).

Gonzalo Israel Soto, special delegate of the Mexican Workers Union League in Goodyear explained that the process should have been definitively canceled and the collective contract of the CTM is deemed not legitimized.

Meanwhile, in parallel, it is reviewed whether or not the labor complaint is activated under the mechanisms established by the T-MEC, and it is expected that on May 26 the United States Department of Labor will report whether it was accepted or not.
