John Wall and the Houston Rockets recently agreed to trade, but it doesn’t look like it will be easy to reach an agreement with another team. The point guard will earn $ 44 million this season and has a player option from 47 to the next, a value that is currently well above its performance and that is putting any potential interested party back, to the point that Texans may have to include something else in the pack to get the attention of other franchises.
Adrian Wojnarowski, a journalist from ESPN, who considers that the current contract of the point guard makes him a practically impossible player to transfer. The journalist points out that the way to make his exit viable would be for the Rockets to also give some future first rounds of the draft, which could be quite high given that Houston’s are in full reconstruction, but he does not believe that something like that will happen. For these reasons, Woj says he thinks Wall will be on the team for a long time unless he decides to forgive money when agreeing to a buyout.
This is not entirely surprising, because, although John is coming off a good season, he is far from being the player he was before the injuries, and it is hard to imagine any franchise giving up part of its core to bet on he. In fact, it was already a bit strange when the Rockets seized his services to release Russell Westbrook, as it seemed like a risky bet and this lack of interest on the part of the rest of the league is not something that should catch them off guard.
However, it is not a move that they need to make urgently, so they can simply wait for the proper context. Who knows if the future of the season will revalue Wall or leave a team in a situation in which the point guard fits perfectly.
