The Russian Deputy Defense Minister, Alexei Krivoruchko, announced that the country’s army air force will receive upgraded and modified Tu-160 bombers in 2021.
In an interview, the official said, “The capabilities of the Russian Air Force will improve thanks to the supply of modified strategic Tu-160 bombers, which are currently being produced. Government contracts have been concluded to acquire these aircraft, and starting from next year the army will start receiving them.”
“In the next seven years, the number of these aircraft in the Russian Air Force is expected to double by one and a half times, and it is assumed that the army’s fleet of military aircraft will be expanded within the framework of the government’s armament program for the period between 2024 and 2033,” he added.

Today, the Tu-160 bombers are considered among the best long-range strategic bombers, due to their high radar capabilities and the ability to fly long distances of more than 7,000 km and a speed of up to 2,200 km / h, as well as they are designed to carry several Kh-101 and Kh missiles. -55SM equipped with normal and nuclear warheads, which can hit their targets at distances of more than three thousand km, meaning that these aircraft are able to strike the enemy without entering the field of their anti-aircraft weapons.
