The Russian Ministry of Defense published a video clip on its accounts and social networks showing the two strategic Tu-160 aircraft flying over the Arctic Ocean.
A statement released by the Ministry of Defense said that the overflights were being conducted over the neutral waters of the Arctic Ocean, the White Sea and the Barents Sea. The flight took about 14 hours.
According to the Russian defense, the crew members of the two planes during the flight trained to air-refuel the two planes. The Ministry of Defense indicated that the overflight was conducted in accordance with internationally agreed rules for the use of airspace.
The newspaper “Rossiyskaya Gazeta” had reported earlier that long-range Russian air force pilots are regularly investigating flights over neutral waters of the Arctic, the North Atlantic, the Pacific Ocean, the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea.
