Russian Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Anton Kotyakov, said today, Wednesday, that the number of officially registered unemployed people in the country currently stands at 2.1 million.
The Russian minister’s statement came during a meeting of the House of Representatives Committee (Duma) on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs, where the minister said: “So far, 2.1 million unemployed people have been registered in our employment centers.”
The minister added that the number of unemployed in Russia reached a peak in August-September of last year.
The number of unemployed people in Russia increased in 2020 due to the emerging corona virus crisis, and measures taken to limit the spread of the virus.
Earlier, the press service of the Russian Labor Ministry said that Russian President Vladimir Putin had set a goal for the government to restore labor market indicators by the end of this year to their level in 2019.
