© Reuters. The Sao Paulo stock market opens the year in red and the dollar rises in Brazil
Sao Paulo, Jan 3 (EFE) .- The index, the main reference of the Sao Paulo stock market, fell 0.86% this Monday and at the end of the first session of the year stood at 103,921 points, while the dollar it was revalued, according to the consolidated data of the day.
In the foreign exchange market, the dollar appreciated 1.57% against the real and ended the first day of 2022 trading at 5,661 reais for purchase and 5,662 for sale at the Brazilian commercial exchange rate.
The Ibovespa ended 2021 with losses of 11.92%, the first negative balance in the last 6 years.
This Monday, investors in the Brazilian stock market ignored the international stock market scenario, which was positive in most places, and opted for caution against the local scene in the face of the beginning of an electoral year, in which they will be elected president, Congress and governors in October.
The São Paulo stock market thus recorded a financial volume of 24,634 million reais (about 4,350 million dollars) on Monday and totaled almost 4.6 million transactions.
With some oscillations, the largest Latin American stock market by volume traded moved this Monday between a maximum score of 106,125 integers, when it rose 1.24%, and a minimum of 103,413 units, with a momentary decline of 1.34% , but managed to regain ground and reduce losses a bit.
After a moderate rise of 0.69% in the session on Thursday -the last one in 2021-, the indicator this Wednesday subtracted 900 units from its accumulated score.
The gains were led by the ordinary papers of the metallurgical company CSN Mineraçao, which climbed 4.60%, followed by the similar ones of the food giant BRF (3.11%) and the state oil company Petrobras (NYSE 🙂 (2 , 67%).
Losses in the stock market, meanwhile, were led by the common shares of the real estate construction company Cyrela (-7.98%), seconded by the preferential ones of the informal footwear manufacturer Alpargatas (-6.94%) and those of the ordinary network of stores and e-commerce Magazine Luiza (-6.93%).
The most traded securities on the day were Petrobras preferential (2.25%).
