The Secretary of Defense detected that the military sold weapons to criminals

Mexicans Against Corruption and Impunity (MCCI) announced, based on files hacked from the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) by the self-styled Guacamayas group, that from Military Camp No. 1 in Mexico City, the different types of weapons to criminal groups.

The document taken up by MCCI, dated June 10, 2019, details that Sedena was aware that a military man offered tactical equipment, weapons, grenades and information on mobility and operations of the Armed Forces, to a cell of a drug cartel. , whose headquarters are in the municipality of Tejupilco, State of Mexico.

The investigation showed that, based on metadata analysis of the telephone equipment used in communications, the base of operations of one of those involved in the accusations was the municipality of Villa de Almoloya de Juárez, near the eighth mechanized regiment of the Sedena.

It was mentioned that the supplier of tactical equipment and weapons was a presumed member of the Army —known as “Ancient”— and had his base of operations inside Military Camp No. 1.

“On May 31 (2019), the military offered operators of the criminal group 70 fragmentation grenades at a cost of 26,000 pesos each; the criminal cell confirmed the purchase of eight of them, which were delivered in Atlacomulco, State of Mexico”, was reflected in the document taken up by MCCI.

The internal investigation of the Army also detailed that the criminals were offered “two thousand ammunition for AK-47 rifle, five thousand for R-15 and 50 magazines of each type of rifle.”

MCCI indicated that when the report was made, to which they had access, the identity of the soldiers involved in the transactions was unknown; although later, on June 24, 2019, thanks to the interception of calls by Sedena, it was learned that the soldier who supplied the weapons to the criminal group was an escort for a high-ranking military commander, whom the cell called “New Commander”.

In the intercepted calls it was also known that the head of the escort was a colonel from Tepalcatepec, Michoacán, with a taste for drink and money.
